Care services in England

Setup and provider support for services in England, with CQC and Ofsted requirements addressed according to the work you deliver.

The service model comes first. Personal care, healthcare, children’s social care and early-years provision do not all follow the same registration route.

01

Care Quality Commission (CQC)

CQC registration is based on regulated activities. Adult home care and supported living providing personal care, care homes, nursing homes and relevant healthcare activities need the appropriate activity review. Children’s healthcare or home-care activities can also fall within CQC’s remit.

02

Ofsted

Children’s homes, qualifying residential family centres and supported accommodation have their own registration requirements. The supported-accommodation category concerns eligible looked-after children and care leavers aged 16 and 17. Early-years and childcare routes depend on the provision; some childminders can register with a childminder agency.

03

Specialist projects and additional approvals

An English secure children’s home requires Department for Education engagement and Secretary of State approval alongside Ofsted registration. Clinical provision within a children’s setting can bring CQC requirements as well. Planning, building, fire and professional requirements must also be addressed where applicable.

The framework for your service

The framework may include the Health and Social Care Act 2008 and regulated-activity requirements, the Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015, or the Supported Accommodation (England) Regulations 2023. We identify the framework for the actual service rather than use one set of documents for every project.

Our work can include service planning, application preparation, leadership preparation, opening checks and support for an existing provider. We agree what is included, who handles specialist work and what happens after handover.
